Sofia is THE city in Southeast Europe with high mountains nearby. As a result, Sofia is the perfect starting point for mountain hikes in ski trips!
Vitosha (“Sofia’s local mountain”): First of all, of course, the Vitosha local mountain should be mentioned. With an altitude of 2200 meters, this mountain is suitable for skiing and numerous hikes.
Bansko (2 hours by car): The largest ski area in Bulgaria is located in Bansko, in the Pirin Mountains. With 70 kilometers of slopes, the ski area is big enough for experienced skiers.
Borovets (1 hour drive away): Borovets is the second largest ski area in Bulgaria. With an hour’s drive from Sofia, you can simply go there in the morning and ski or hike during the day. A very nice destination to escape the hustle and bustle of the city!
